Boatswains Mate or Gunners Mate?

Im joining the CoastGuard anyone already in or knowlegable on which is better for me BW or GM? I want to do something more in maritime security and safety. The stuff ive read though it seems that GM's do more repairing then actual law enforcement. But on the other hand i could be wrong. Any information and suggestions would be nice. Thanks!
