Can hybrids have babies?

My mom doesn't believe me when I say that 2 mules cannot get together and have baby mules, since mules are hybrids. I learned in bio that hybrids can't reproduce, therefore you cannot have baby ligers coming from ligers, or mules coming from mules. Can someone please explain this completely?
