Why does prom have to cost so much. the dress expecially?

i mean cant they have discounts way before the date. and why do the damn tickets have to be like 45 bucks. plus your ride, dinner, shoes, makeup, hair, and nails, dont forget the tanning, oh my better start saving now huh. How much does it usually run with all that. average amount yah know.
