Can I get a PR internship if I am a convicted felon?

I was convicted with a felony when I had just turned 18, 4 years later at 22, I am majoring in public relations at my university. I am hoping to land an internship next summer, but I am discouraged thinking I will be asked on applications if I have ever been convicted. It is quite a burden to know that one mistake made many years ago, will always come back to bite you in the a**. Does anyone know if I can still get an internship? I can't wait to have my felony expunged in the near future so I can get on with my life.
